What Fees Will I Have From The Court Regarding My Case?

In most cases, you have to pay a fee to file papers with the court. The fees are a little different in each county. Most counties have their fee schedules posted on their court’s web site.

Here are the web sites for your use. They will open in a new window or tab.

Coeur d Alene
Orange
Riverside
San Bernardino
San Diego

In some cases, like a request for a Domestic Violence restraining order, you do not have to pay any fees. For some people who do not earn enough money, the court will say that they do not have to pay the fees. This is called a “fee waiver.” To find out if you qualify for a fee waiver, read form 982(a)(17)(A), Information Sheet on Waiver of Court Fees and Costs.

You will need both of these forms to ask for a fee waiver:

Description Fillable Form Instructions
Order on Application for Waiver of Court Fees and Costs 982(a)(18) Instructions for form 982(a)(18)
Application for Waiver of Court Fees and Costs 982(a)(17)
(form does calculations)
Instructions for form 982(a)(17)

Later on in your case, you may need these forms to ask for a fee waiver:

Description Fillable Form
Order on Application for Waiver of Additional Court Fees and Costs 982(a)(18.1)
Application for Waiver of Additional Court Fees and Costs 982(a)(20)

These are confidential forms for the court only. Do not have them served on the other party.
